Fire Blotter: Emergency Drills and Apartment Fire False Alarm

Firefighters participated in the Great American ShakeOut drill.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of Oct. 16-22. The following is a breakdown of incident types for this period:

EMS/Rescues: 45

Service Calls: 6
False Alarms: 11

At 11:33 p.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision with injuries in the 900 Block of West Duarte Road. Fire personnel found one patient suffering from minor to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support measures at the scene and was transported to for further evaluation and treatment.

At 9 a.m., members of the Arcadia Fire Department participated in the Great California Shakeout with an Emergency Operations Center exercise. The drill allowed the department to practice monitoring information flow, prioritizing the use of limited resources and develop a staffing plan for an earthquake or other major emergency. The drill was critiqued for areas of improvement.

Oct. 21:

At 2 p.m., Engine 105 and Battalion 105 arrived at the
Arcadia Community Center to take part in a Disaster Preparedness Expo. Fire personnel took part in a presentation to the community on disaster preparedness and staffed a display booth to provide additional emergency preparedness
information.

Oct. 22:

At 9:07 a.m., Engine 106, Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Battalion 105, along with Monrovia and Los Angeles County fire units, responded to a possible apartment house fire in the 800 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire Crews investigated the odor of smoke and found an unattended pot of food cooking on a stove. Fire crews removed the burnt food from the kitchen. No injuries or damage were reported
