Former San Marino Mayor Top Assembly Candidate Fundraiser

Matthew Lin, the physician and former San Marino mayor running to represent San Marino and other cities in the 49th State Assembly District, has raised the most campaign money so far, the Pasadena Sun reports.

As the race for the 49th District Assembly seat to represent San Marino and other San Gabriel Valley cities continues, candidates have already raised considerable amounts, the Pasadena Sun reported Sunday.

See a map of the newly drawn 49th District here.

Former Rosemead Mayor John Tran, who had raised the least amount at $66,000, will plead guilty to charges of accepting bribes from 2005-2007, according to a criminal complaint filed by the U.S. District Attorney's Office Friday.

Tran's campaign has yet to release an official statement about the future of Tran's candidacy, but should he withdraw it leaves more votes--and fundraising dollars--up for grabs.

Check back on Patch for more developments in the Tran case and his endorsements by local leaders.

The top fundraiser for the 49th District Assembly seat so far is former San Marino Mayor Matthew Lin with $220,000 raised between Nov. 29 and Dec. 31, the Sun reported.

The entire San Marino City Council, Sheriff Lee Baca and Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich are among Lin's endorsements.

Montebello School Board member Ed Chau, who is endorsed by current 49th District Assemblyman Mike Eng (D-Alhambra) and his wife, Rep. Judy Chu (D-Monterey Park), raised $219,500.

Eng is termed out but Chu is running for the new Congressional district that includes San Marino.

Luis Ayala, Alhambra Mayor and government affairs director for the Los Angeles County Medical Association, raised $136,500, according to the Sun

Patch is looking into whether retired teacher David Siegrist, who announced his candidacy a few months ago, is still running.

I commend Matthew Lin for taking the BOLD step of jumping into the 49th Assembly Race. Under the two former Assembly member Chu&Eng no jobs bill or for that matter only social bills that have put California into the biggest financial crisis ever was pushed by the both . Its about time someone who is NOT committed to
"special interest groups" is moving forward to give the voters a choice. Matthew Lin advocate more jobs and LESS taxes and LESS government controls !
