Funeral Services Set for Teen Cyclist

Roger Lewis will be buried Saturday in Whittier.

Funeral services for a teen cyclist killed in a collision with a car are set for Saturday. Roger Lewis' funeral will be at 9 a.m. in the Skyrose Chapel at Rose Hills Memorial Park in Whittier.

Lewis was hit by a car while riding his bike Oct. 20 and died of his injuries three days later. The accident occurred at the intersection of Santa Anita Avenue and Duarte Road.

Police said Lewis was not wearing a helmet, as required by California law for minors.

Meanwhile, authorities have not charged the unidentified 26-year-old motorist who hit Lewis with any crime, and alcohol does not appear to be a factor in the accident.

"At this time, the primary collision factor remains the unsafe turning movement on the part of the bicyclist, and we do not anticipate criminal charges being filed," Arcadia Police Lt. Tom LeVeque said.

Authorities are still awaiting toxicology reports on the motorist, but Lewis' reports came out clean, LeVeque said. The investigation remains open until police have the motorist's toxicology reports, which could take more than 60 days.
