UPDATED: Hiker Injured In Angeles National Forest Released

A woman was released with only minor injuries after hurting her arm at the popular swimming spot.

UPDATED - 3:25 p.m. - A female hiker who was injured earlier today has been released by paramedics following an examination of injuries sustained at Hermit Falls in the Angeles National Forest.

According to Captain Gary Sens of the Los Angeles County Fire Department, the woman injured her arm while diving into the water at the popular swimming spot and was unable to pull herself from the water due to her injury.

"Hermit falls has become a place where a lot of kids like to go and some of them sustain injuries due to their varying swimming skills," Sens said.

Witnesses who spoke with rescue teams said the woman had fallen hard and were concerned about her condition. But Sens told Patch that she was talking and "seems to be OK."

Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter Air 5 was on the scene to airlift the woman from the Hermit Falls area to a landing spot nearby where county paramedics examined and later released her.

Also responding to the incident were units from the Sierra Madre Search and Rescue Team, the and the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

Rescuers from the Los Angeles County Fire Department are currently deployed to an area of the Angeles National Forest where a female hiker has been injured, according to a report from City News service issued at 1:20 p.m. today.

According to the CNS report, the woman fell approximately 30 feet down an embankment near the 2200 block of Santa Anita Canyon Road, about two miles north of Sierra Madre and above Arcadia.

Unconfirmed scanner reports also indicate that the are now onthe scene to assist with the resuce of the injured hiker.
