Salsa Sizzles at the Westfield Mall

Get ready to dance at the Santa Anita Mall.

The night came alive at the   as Johnny Polanco y Su Conjunto Amistad took the stage for the dancers, shoppers and music lovers of .

About one hundred people gathered for the inaugural night of "," which began at 6 p.m. In addition to live music, participants enjoyed salsa and merengue lessons, drinks and plenty of chairs for those who just wanted to enjoy the twilight and music.

Michael Nice, long-time dancer and salsa enthusiast, was tearing up the floor. "I heard Johnny Polanco was playing through the grapevine that is facebook," he laughed. "I had a blast, I had a great time; I always do when it's good music and dancing."

Nice, who has been dancing for 10 years, plans to come back for the next salsa night, the grand finale on Oct. 14.

Alexis Gomez, too, came for the dancing.

"It was so much fun!" she gushed. "I wanted to learn something new and I heard there was going to be salsa. And hey, it's free. How can you go wrong?"

Javier Lagos, who came out from Glendale, was there just for the music, which he enjoyed very much.

"I definitely got my groove on," he said, adding that he plans to come out again.

The fun continues next Friday, Sept. 16, as Pam Loe and Hipshot take the stage for a night of two-stepping and line dancing. In the weeks to come, there will be swing, disco, foxtrot, waltz, and, of course, more salsa.
