Hidden Danger - Kitchen Fire

You may not think its all that common, but one in 8 households will have a cooking fire each year according to the Mayo Clinic. Furthermore, the leading cause of home fires is cooking.  Therefore, even for an elderly who are experienced in cooking, the possibility is still be considered.

So what are some things you can do to make sure you prevent a kitchen fire?  For example, turn off the stove whenever you leave the kitchen.  If you are using the oven for something, set timers as reminders to check up on it.  Also, don't leave the house while leaving the oven on!  Finally, clear the area.  Things such as towels, food packaging, and even your loose clothing can be considered a hazard, thus should be kept away from the heat.
