5 Summer Camps That Your Kids Will Love

Whether your child needs help in an academic subject, wants to hone their drama skills, or wants to learn how to surf, we've got the best camp options right here.

Summer is just around the corner, and here in the San Gabriel Valley, there are a host of summer camps bidding for your child's attention.

So how do parents decide which camp to pick? Well, we can't pick the perfect camp for your child, but here are five choices that your kids are sure to enjoy:

1. Creative World Art Camp

When: Four two-week sessions running June-August

Monday-Friday, 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. (Elementary)

Monday-Friday, 4 p.m. - 7 p.m. (Teens)

Ages: Elementary through High School

Kids will engage in art, art history and photography at this creative camp. Field trips to art museums, the zoo, the California Science Center, and Arboretum will take place the first Friday of each session. Qualified art teachers encourage and guide students to foster true creativity and confidence through individual art projects, group projects and electives. See what your kids have accomplished at the end of their session with a final exhibition and performance in which you and your friends and family are invited.

The program for teens focuses on the study of fine arts and digital arts. Each session is divided and themed into drawing, painting, sculpture, and digital art. Classes will explore both historical and contemporary artists and art movements, working in a range of styles and media.

Cost: $110 per session

Outdoor Adventure Camp provides lots of fun for kids and is held at Arcadia’s unique nature preserve, Wilderness Park.

The camps are organized into nine week-long sessions. Kids cookout, go on hiking excursions, and play a host of sports such as soccer and kickball.

3. Theatre 360 Summer Camp

Where: First Baptist Church of Pasadena | 75 N. Marengo Ave., Pasadena, CA 91101.

When: 5 two-week sessions running late June - late August

Cost: $405-450 per session

Ages: 3-19

Located within the First Baptist Church of Pasadena, Theatre 360 will be offering theatre camp for kids 6 to 19 years old. At the camp, your children will be able to take advantage of three floors of classrooms, dressing rooms, and large theatrical performance space to hone their acting skills. The camp runs Monday through Friday from 9 a.m.- 3 p.m.

Do you have a little tot who commands attention, loves to be in the spotlight, and has unheard of dancing, singing or acting skills. If so, they seem destined for the big screen. Showbiz Kids is a summer camp for ages 3-5 that can help them in their path. The camp meets Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 9 a.m. - noon.

4. Sally Ride Science Camp for Girls

Where: Caltech, Pasadena

When: July 11-15 | Monday through Friday 9 a.m. -5 p.m.

Ages: 4th-9th grade

Cost: $895

Named after the first American female astronaut to enter space, Sally Ride Science Camp offers an exciting five day long summer camp for your daughters. Taking place at one of the most prestigious technology universities in the country, girls will be given an opportunity to learn about science, as well as gain leadership and problem-solving training.

Students will participate in hands-on activities, such as building rockets, robots, and marine habitats through workshops, experiments, and recreational activities. Students will also attend a mid-program excursion to a local science venue, and meet many new friends.

4th - 6th Grade Campers: choose from Intro to Marine Science and Intro to Engineering Majors.

7th - 9th Grade Campers: choose from Marine Science and Astronomy Majors.

5. Surf Camp

Where: Santa Anita YMCA

Ages: Entering Grades 3 – 8

When: August 8 – 12

Cost: Facility Member $375/Program Member $400

Do your kids want to go to camp, but also want to spend some time at the beach? Give them the best of both worlds with an overnight camp from the YMCA. Kids get to spend five days in San Diego surfing, kayaking as well as participating in a host of other fun activities. Evenings will consist of sitting around the campfire, performing in skits and playing games. This camp will surely be unforgettable.
