A Noise Within Artistic Director to Address Scholarship Benefit

The founder of a Noise Within will treat attendees of the San Gabriel Valley Alumnae Panhellenic Scholarship program's annual luncheon to a glimpse of life behind the scenes of her celebrated theater company.

Julia Rodriguez-Elliot will tell stories of both the real-life and on-stage characters she has encountered since founding A Noise Within nearly 20 years ago. Last fall, the company moved from its Glendale location to a permanent home in the former Stuart Pharmaceutical building at the corner of Foothill Boulevard and Sierra Madre Villa Avenue in Pasadena.

"Julia Rodriguez-Elliott and A Noise Within is a welcome addition to the arts scene in the San Gabriel Valley," Event Chair Margie Totten said. "Her work with students as part of the theater's educational programming, the production of classical literature, and the major awards she holds for her efforts, makes Julia the perfect speaker for our event."    

The San Gabriel Valley Alumnae Panhellenic scholarship program has awarded merit-based scholarships to over 200 high schol girls since its inception in 1939. Last year's winners — which included Brenda Guan of — received $1,000 each.

The event takes place Monday at 11:30 a.m. in the Sunset Room of the Santa Anita Golf Club at 405 S. Santa Anita Ave.
