UPDATE: Armed Robbery Suspect Evades Police
Suspect flees after pursuit by El Monte Police.
UPDATE, 11:43 p.m.: The man wanted for armed robbery in El Monte evaded officers who established a containment near Peck Road Park earlier Saturday.
The man made it into the storm channel and was last seen swimming out of sight, according to El Monte Police.
Officers broke down containment at 9:26 p.m.
PREVIOUSLY: A man possibly armed with a sawed-off shotgun is the focus of a search by El Monte, Arcadia and Monrovia police.
The man is wanted by El Monte Police for a robbery from last week, in which the suspect used the weapon. El Monte Police began pursuing the suspect after he fled from officers conducting a stakeout on a residence in their town, according to El Monte Police.
The chase began at 7:27 p.m. and ended five minutes later after the suspect ran multiple red lights in a gray Chevy Malibu. The suspect went through an industrial complex and crashed into a chain linked fence and fled on foot near Peck Road Park, according to El Monte Police.
It is unknown if the suspect tonight was armed with the shotgun.

Deputies from the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department are also assisting. Officers have a large containment in the area.
Some residents in the area of Clark Street and Kardashian Avenue reported a suspicious man running in the area, according to scanner reports.
