Black Cats $13 on July 13

Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA look to attract attention to these overlooked felines.

Thirteen is the new lucky number for black cats. These felines, often overlooked due to superstitions, are not bad luck; In fact, they are considered good luck in other countries around the world.

The new adoption promotion starts Friday, July 13 and subsequently on the thirtenth of every month.

Cats with partially-black fur are included too. The $13 adoption fee includes the spay/neuter surgery, a microchip, the first set of vaccinations, a follow-up health visit at a participating veterinarian, as well as a complimentary health and wellness exam from a participating VCA Animals Hospital.

“These cats and kittens are just as affectionate and adorable,” says Kevin McManus, Adoptions Supervisor at the Pasadena Humane Society & SPCA.

“Unfortunately superstitions about black cats make it harder to adopt them out. Hopefully this promotion will shed new light on them and get them into the loving homes they need.”

The regular adoption fee for cats is $70; however, the new promotion joins ongoing cat adoption programs the shelter provides. Long-term resident cats— cats that have been at the shelter for more than a month—are $35; adopters can adopt two cats for $85; and adopters 60-years-old and older qualify for the Seniors for Seniors program in which the adoption fee is waived and adopters only pay the $20 mandatory microchip fee.
