Residents still have time to witness life during WWII while imprisoned inside the Santa Anita Japanese Assembly Center.
The sketches of Riyo Sato are on display until Nov. 2. Her never-before-seen drawings illustrate life inside the Assembly Center in the summer of 1942, after she was forced to leave her Palo Alto home in May of that year.
From the Santa Anita center, she and her family were taken to the Heart Mountain Relocation Center near Cody, Wyo.
Having received formal education at California College of Arts and Crafts in Oakland, Calif. two years prior to being imprisoned.
During her internment, Sato continued to sketch to keep her skills sharp.
After the war, Sato spent over 30 years as an art teachers to junior and high school students.
The exhibit was made possible through the donation of Sato's works by her family.
