Sun and Fun in Palm Springs This Weekend

Palm Springs is only 100 miles away, and doesn't have to cost you a lot to enjoy.

After last week's gloomy pouring rain fell upon Arcadia in a brutal consistency that wouldn't let up, you may be in need of some serious heat. With temperatures warming up and the sun shining in its Southern California way, why not take optimum advantage by getting away to the hottest spot around?

That's right: Palm Springs, baby.

With temps forecasted to be sunny and breezy in the 90s, there is no way you can object, sanely at least.

Believe it or not, you don't have to be a limo-taking, Rolex-wearing, Los Angeles big shot to enjoy the area; Palm Springs is fun for the rest of us too.

There are several luxurious places to lodge that don't charge $500 plus nightly. For example, Rancho Las Palmas is offering a web only deal where if you book two nights you get the third free. Another favorite spot with just-right prices is the Caliente Tropics Resort. Many who've visited this resort have come back again and again and point out the staff friendliness and room size and decoration as high points on their stays. Rooms for this weekend start as low as $110.

While you're in Palm Springs, if you can peel yourself away from lounging by the pool, soak up some rays at Agua Caliente Indian Canyons. Here you'll get to hike the trails and view the beauty of desert nature. Agua Caliente also offers horseback riding.

If you want to experience a whole other climate while there, you have to go on the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. You'll ascend to 8,500 feet and into cooler temperatures to capture a spectacular view of the city. Ticket prices are $23.25 for adults, and $16.25 for kids 3-12.

Who knew your great escape was only 100 miles and less than two hours away from Arcadia.
