Photo Gallery: Arboretum Officials Survey Windstorm Damage

Arboretum CEO asks the public for donations to help in the recovery efforts.

Powerful swept through Nov. 30 and wrecked more than 1,000 trees in the . The Arboretum has never before sustained such severe damage due to a natural disaster, said CEO Richard Schulhof.

More than 300 trees in the 127-acre botanical garden need replacing entirely, while another 700 require extensive pruning.

Schulhof said he has only just begun compiling estimates on how much the recovery efforts will cost.

"Obviously, it's going to be an expensive cleanup and an expensive process to restore the Arboretum," he said.

The county will fund a portion of the recovery efforts, but Schulhof said public donations are needed to fill in the gaps, Schulhof said. The Arboretum has since set up a fund specifically for repairs connected to the storm.
