Man Hit With Axe Handle in Fight

One man was transported to an area hospital after both became involved in a fight.

One man used a wooden axe handle to allegedly defend himself from an acquaintance wielding a screwdriver during an altercation Thursday afternoon.

One man was struck on the head with the axe handle and was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Both men were arrested after officers detained and interviewed them and after a lack of witnesses could not provide more details about the incident, said Lieutenant Mike Castro of Arcadia Police.

The fight was reported at 3:30 p.m. in the area of Camino Grove and 6th Avenue. The two acquaintances became involved in a physical altercation. The man with the axe handle claimed to have hit his acquaintance to defend himself. The acquaintance reportedly used a screwdriver during the altercation, Castro said.

According to scanner reports, at least one of the men was seen bleeding heavily from the head. The two men fled the area, but were detained and eventually arrested by police.

Authorities could not immediately say what started the fight.

Arrested was Thomas Zion, 24, from Arcadia, and Juan-Manuel Rodriguezzendej, 31, from Altadena. Both were booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon and are being held in lieu of $30,000 bail.
