Copland: A Lincoln Portrait (1942)

The APU Symphony opens its 2011-12 season with a program of music by Haydn alongside works from North and South America composed in 1942. Cello professor Marek Szpakiewicz solos in Haydn's delightful Cello Concerto. The program also features the beautiful Bachianas Brasileiras #7 by Brazilian composer Heitor Villa-Lobos that combines music of Bach with Brazilian folk music. The work will, amazingly, receive its West Coast premiere on this concert. And in a special treat APU President Jon Wallace will narrate Aaron Copland's stirring A Lincoln Portrait.

Admission is free, and no tickets are required to attend this event.
