See a Foreign Film for Free at the Getty Center
Enjoy the nice weather at the Getty Center this weekend and catch a free flick.
It looks like it's going to be another sun-soaked weekend in Southern California and we've got the best plan to maximize your weekend: a museum free of charge, the coastline, and you soaking up artistic knowledge with a classic 35mm black and white film.
This Sunday, the Getty Center presents China's first musical comedy, Scenes of City Life, made and set in the 1930s metropolis of Shanghai.
Don't be apprehensive about the setting or time of the movie, it's sure to bring some laughs as the plot remains hilarious and relevant in these turbulent economic times. The film uses live action, animation and even a peep show to tell its narrative of the love triangle between a pawnshop owner's daughter and two suitors from opposite ends of the economic spectrum.
There will be a special introduction before showtime by Columbia University Assistant Professor Weihong Bao, from the Chinese Film and Media Culture department.
The film is 92 minutes long and will be shown with English subtitles.
