Patch Blog: Have You Been Touched by Cancer?

My amazing experiences and personal fulfillment through Relay For Life!

Hi, my name is Beth and I am a Cancer Caregiver. Cancer has run a nasty thread through my life. I have had too many aunts, cousins, extended family, former classmates, co-workers and friends battle Cancer; some have prevailed, but most lost their fight.

A few years ago, I was introduced to the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. It has given me a passion like no other to help Beat Cancer! If you have been touched by cancer, or know anyone who may benefit from the realization that he or she is not alone in the Cancer Fight, Please join us for Relay for Life of Arcadia June 23 at .

It's an amazing experience! Celebrate! We celebrate the Cancer Survivors and Caregivers! Remember! We remember those we have lost. Fight Back! We vow to continue the fight!

My Dad was diagnosed with Lung Cancer in 1983 on his 58th Birthday. He was a heavy smoker. He delayed seeing a doctor knowing something was wrong and lived just another six weeks. I was 22. My Dad has missed so much of our lives; he only met two of his eight grandchildren.

I want future generations to be spared hearing " You have Cancer". If you'd like to Join Us in the Fight Against Cancer log onto our Relay For Life Web site to participate or donate. More about Caregivers next time in my blog.

Celebrate, Remember, Fight Back! I do!

Thank you Beth for your blog. I think cancer has touched almost every person I know in one way or another through themselves or family or friends. Last year I had the privilege to pray over a beautiful lady who had lymphoma. She was in our bible study group. A few of us went to her house days before she went home to the Lord and prayed over her, whispered to her that Jesus would be waiting for her. She left 3 girls in High School here. Broke my heart to know they would not grow up with their mom. Blessings to you my friend

Hi Susan, The graphic shows that in only one year from 2002-2011 were more Hispanics arrested thanRead More Blacks (2011) - if you hover your mouse over each point you can see the raw number of arrests for each group each year. That's despite there being a substantially larger Hispanic population in L.A. County. The data comes from the Dept. of Justice and was reported by the ACLU - and I believe the point of the report is that there is racial profiling going on, not to suggest that black people are using more pot. In fact, the study suggests that there is not significantly more prevalent pot use among any one racial group. The figure 2.6 times as likely refers to blacks vs. whites, as in mentioned in the first sentence of the article, and comes from the ACLU study. Our intention was definitely not sensationalism but rather to direct readers to this national ACLU study that included L.A. County data. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.
