Tomato expert Steve Goto, who was on hand Wednesday to offer advice to anyone who needed it, told Patch his favorite tomato is a Japanese varietal called Momotaro.

"They're the perfect balance between acidic and sweet," he said.

And what is the biggest mistake home gardeners make when it comes to growing tomatoes?

"Over-watering," Goto said. "Check your tomato plant in the morning, rather than the afternoon, because [tomato] plants can look droopy in the afternoon."

Also, don't forget to feel the soil to see whether it is damp.
