Arcadia Blogger to Appear on 'Bizarre Foods'

Clarissa Wei gave "Bizarre Foods" host Andrew Zimmern a tour of the SGV's exotic chow for an episode to air this summer.

Arcadia-based food blogger Clarissa Wei will appear on an episode of the Travel Channel's "Bizarre Foods " scheduled to air this summer. Wei gave host Andrew Zimmern a tour of the San Gabriel Valley's more exotic culinary offerings over a period of 1 1/2 days in February.

And Wei, who runs the popular blog 626Foodettes with colleague Kristie Hang, certainly knows the Valley's food scene.

"The San Gabriel Valley is a special place," Wei told Patch. "It's not everywhere where giant chili pepper covered fish heads and pig intestines are within blocks from each other."

Wei called Zimmern "a true pro."

"His whole thing isn't just about highlighting bizarre foods. It's about showcasing the cultural and historical background of different ethnicities through food," Wei said. "Finally, a feature on Chinese food that isn't dumpling, noodles or dim sum-centric."

Check out Wei's blog about her shoot with Zimmern.

Patch will keep you updated on this story and let you know the air date of Clarissa Wei's "Bizarre Foods" episode.

Hi Susan, The graphic shows that in only one year from 2002-2011 were more Hispanics arrested thanRead More Blacks (2011) - if you hover your mouse over each point you can see the raw number of arrests for each group each year. That's despite there being a substantially larger Hispanic population in L.A. County. The data comes from the Dept. of Justice and was reported by the ACLU - and I believe the point of the report is that there is racial profiling going on, not to suggest that black people are using more pot. In fact, the study suggests that there is not significantly more prevalent pot use among any one racial group. The figure 2.6 times as likely refers to blacks vs. whites, as in mentioned in the first sentence of the article, and comes from the ACLU study. Our intention was definitely not sensationalism but rather to direct readers to this national ACLU study that included L.A. County data. Let me know if I can answer any other questions.
