First Crossfit Gym Opens in Arcadia on First Avenue

Crossfit Reason challenges local residents to get fit through functional movement.

Arcadia's first Crossfit gym opened downtown last week and its homegrown owner hopes to encourage local residents to get fit through functional movement.

Classes have begun at Crossfit Reason, an affiliate of the Crossfit fitness company that stresses high-intensity, community-based workouts based on everyday movements.

Owner Eric Chang, an Arcadia native, said he started the gym at 215 S. First Avenue to get local residents active.

"I just have a real passion for getting people in shape," Chang said.

The workouts promoted by Crossfit are constantly varied and designed to mimic natural movements. On one day members will do power-lifting and calisthenics, on another they'll perform gymnastics. And whatever they do, they'll do it hard.

"We just go really hard all the time in every workout," Chang said.

Crossfit Reason offers morning and evening classes and so far sports 25 members. More classes will be added as membership grows, Chang said.
