The decreasing pump prices are the result "of the rapid drop in wholesale prices that began late last month," according to Jeffrey Spring of the Automobile Club of Southern California.

"Drivers should easily be able to find gas stations now charging less than $3.90 a gallon, and a few that are even below $3.80," Spring said.

The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Orange County fell below $4 today for the first time since Feb. 17 while the Los Angeles County average price came close to doing the same.

The Orange County average price dropped a hefty 2.8 cents overnight to $3.98, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. The Orange County average price has decreased for 30 consecutive days and is 13.7 cents less than one week ago and 40.3 cents lower than one month ago. However, it is 6.1 cents higher than one year ago.
