Hurricane Sandy Prompts Canceled LAX Flights

More than 7,200 flights have been canceled nationwide, including 130 set to be flown in or out of LAX today and Tuesday.

Airlines have canceled more than 7,200 flights because of Hurricane Sandy and its expected impact on the East Coast, and around 130 of them were to have flown in or out of LAX today and Tuesday, airport officials said.

As of this morning, the number of cancelled L.A-related flights stands at 129, said airport spokesman Albert Rodriguez, who provided details for most of them.

U.S. Airways cancelled two flights to Philadelphia, while Virgin America cancelled seven departures and seven arrivals, to New York,  Boston, Philadelphia and Washington D.C., according to a list prepared by LAX officials.

Jet Blue cancelled three departures to New York and two to Boston. Qantas delayed the arrival of a New York flight to Los Angeles.

American Airlines cancelled today's seven departures to New York and Washington, along with 15 departures and 16 arrivals scheduled for tomorrow to and from New York, Boston, Washington and Newark.

Delta Airlines cancelled three departures today to New York and eight tomorrow. Alaska Airlines has cancelled all six of its Washington D.C. departures today and tomorrow.

United Airlines cancelled nine departures today and 14 tomorrow to New York, Newark and Washington, D.C. Its sister company, Continental Airlines, cancelled eight departures today and 10 tomorrow to the east coast.
