National Donut Day: Celebrate By Stuffing Yourself

Silly holidays happen all the time, and Friday is National Donut Day, a fantastic opportunity for lovers of the fried ring of dough to throw that diet to the wind.

National Donut Day or National Doughnut Day? If you're worried about the spelling, you're wasting precious donut-eating time.

The momentous holiday, celebrated all over the web and in donut stores everywhere, marks a day where Americans around the country can put aside their differences and bask in the glory of deep-fried dough.

Despite its silly title, the holiday actually has a meaningful history: it was started in 1938 by the Salvation Army to celebrate the women who served donuts to soldiers in the first World War, according to donutdayusa.com.
