Patch Blog: The Acoustic Download

This blog is about great music. Each week, I will describe and provide a link to a song that I feel is amazing in terms of song writing, soul, passion and artistry.

I've been thinking about this for a long time......................................................

What could it it be?, you may ask.  All I have heard about Cam Stone is that he is a tree hugger and a trouble maker for the powers that be.  Well, among my many interests, there happens to be this most amazing and uniquely human concept called "music".  More than anybody I know (except for my son), I cherish great music and search out musical genius and artistry with a passion.  Yes, back when we were in high school and college it seemed like everyone was into music and we reveled to the magic that awesome tunes inspired in each and everyone of us.

Now, three decades have passed since my fateful college graduation day and the importance of music in the day-to-day lives of almost everyone I know has faded into the background.  For whatever reason, the importance of music in my life has only grown stronger.  To put it simply - great music, performed by gifted artists who are performing not for the money but because they are driven by the essence of their soul, provides me with pure joy.  As I write this, I am tearing up - That is how powerful the impact of music has been on my life.

Strangely, I was never able to (or had the necessary drive to) play an instrument or perform music proficiently.  My dad was a crooner but that precious musical performance gene skipped a generation and landed squarely in the soul of my son, John allowing me to revel in the joy that performing music gives to him.

OK, so what is this all about?  I've decided to write a weekly blog called "The Acoustic Download" in which I will highlight a single song that has reached in and touched my musical soul.  I will also provide a link to iTunes where you can purchase and download that song.

More than likely, you will have never heard most of the songs that I select.  I have found that the best music from the great artists of our time can be found on their albums and not on the Top 40 list.

Now for the first song on my list:  "Ocean Breeze" by Pablo Cruise released in 1975 on their first album.  This 12 minute long song showcases the stellar classical piano playing of Cory Lerios for the first four minutes followed by a smokin' hot guitar solo by David Jenkins.  For me, this song embodies everything that was California in the mid-seventies so sit back, relax and enjoy 12 minutes of uplifting music from a quintessential California rock band.

This song is so obscure that it is not even available on iTunes so you can listen to it immediately on Grooveshark at:
