Crazy For Gershwin - Crazy For You!

Local volunteers bring a special production to Duarte this weekend - and I can't get enough!

These past few months I've had the chance to support a local production of what is perhaps a lesser known musical, Crazy For You. Based on the music and lyrics of George Gershwin this show includes cowboys, show girls, loads of dancing and the timeless Gershwin music we all hold so dear. The show includes covers of "Someone to watch over me," "Nice work if you can get it," and "I got rhythm" and many more.

Cast and crew feature the talents of local college and high school students from Temple City, Duarte, Monrovia and Arcadia as well as local residents and professionals from throughout the Foothill area.

Although casting began just this last April, production has been in the works since 2010. Sponsored by local members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints from the cities of Duarte, Temple City, Monrovia and Arcadia this production is one of many for this organization. Over the past 20 years, these volunteers have featured productions of "Fiddler on the Roof," "Oklahoma!," "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Music Man" to name a few.

"It is a labor of love for us as a family to do productions like this for the community," said Steve Combie musical director for the show, Temple City resident and Bishop. "So much effort is put into every costume, set piece and rehearsal. It is our pleasure to give back to our community."

"Crazy For You" will be featured this weekend at the Duarte Performing Arts Center for three nights only (July 19, 20 and 21) beginning at 7:30 pm. Tickets are only $1 each but are required for entrance. There is no assigned seating.
