City Council to Vote on $800,000 Contract to Build Museum Education Center

The city has selected a contractor to build the Museum Education Center and the council will vote on a proposed contract with the firm on Tuesday.

The Arcadia City Council will vote Tuesday on a proposal to pay a contractor nearly $800,000 to build the Museum Education Center adjacent to the Gilb Museum.

City staff recommends the council enter into an agreement with TKE Construction to build the center for $797,581 with a 10 percent contingency fund, according to an agenda report written by Development Services Director Jason Kruckeberg. TKE was one of five firms that submitted estimates on the project after it was sent out to bid in March.

Museum support organizations have raised about $500,000 toward the cost of the museum's construction so the city will be on the hook for about $300,000 that would be funded through Parks and Recreation impact fees, according to the report.

The 2,600 square-foot education center is needed to give additional space for programs put on by the Gilb museum, which has outgrown its current building.

The building will include two classrooms, an entry way, restrooms and utility rooms, a storage area, a large outdoor patio area, and a small workstation area, the report states.
