Fire Blotter: Big Rig Plows into Center Divider on 210, Jackknifes

Sunday, May 19
At 3:58 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Upon arrival, fire personnel found three patients suffering from mild injuries. The patients received advanced life support at the scene; including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, and 12 lead cardiac monitoring. The patients were transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, May 20
At 4:55 a.m., Engine 106 and units from Monrovia Fire Department responded to a reported overturned big rig on the eastbound 210 Freeway at Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find an overturned tractor trailer that had been traveling eastbound when the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing the vehicle to hit the center divider and overturn into the westbound lanes. Due to the accident, westbound lanes of the freeway were shut down for several hours while California Highway Patrol and Cal Trans up-righted and removed the vehicle and cleaned up the freeway. The driver was not injured.

Tuesday, May 21
At 10:02 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Pasadena Truck 32, Rescue Ambulance 105 and Battalion 105 responded to an appliance fire in the 00 block of Alta Street. Fire crews arrived on scene and witnessed light smoke inside of a condominium unit. Fire crews investigated and found the source of the smoke to be combustible material accidentally left inside a heated oven. The burnt material was removed and the smoke was evacuated using natural ventilation.

Wednesday, May 22
At 11:08 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of South Sunset Boulevard. Fire crews arrived to find a 51 year old female, who was confused and behaving strangely. Fire personnel determined that the patient had recently stopped taking prescribed psychiatric medications and had stopped drinking. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene, including base hospital contact and patient calming. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation

Thursday, May 23
At 6:13 p.m., Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, and Battalion 105 responded to a traffic collision involving an automobile and a bicycle in the 100 block of North First Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male patient suffering from minor to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, intravenous access, cardiac monitoring, and full spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, May 24
At 8:07 a.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 2000 block of North Vista Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 73 year old male experiencing weakness and dizziness associated with a slow heart rate and low blood pressure. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including placing the patient in shock position, intravenous access, 12 lead electrocardiogram, cardiac drugs, electrical pacing therapy and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital further evaluation.

Saturday, May 25
At 2:39 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male patient who was suffering from an altered mental status, post seizure activity. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
