Fire Blotter: Car Bursts Into Flames Outside Hong Kong Supermarket

Sunday, May 5

At 10:00 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block East Camino Real Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from general weakness and slurred speech. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and blood glucose monitoring. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, May 6

At 4:18 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 00 block of West Bishop Court. Fire crews arrived to find a 74 year old female suffering from slurred speech, facial droop, headache and blurred vision. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, 12 lead electrocardiogram and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.

Tuesday, May 7

At 9:27 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic collision involving an automobile and a motorcycle in the 300 block of North Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male patient suffering from minor to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, full spinal immobilization, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy for pain management. The patient was transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, May 8

At 1:16 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a vehicle fire in the 900 block of West Duarte Road in the City of Monrovia. Engine 105 arrived on scene to witness a vehicle on fire next to a building in a shopping center parking lot. Fire personnel charged a 1.5” fire hose to extinguish the fire and requested Truck 105 to respond with additional equipment. Truck 105 personnel utilized a rotary saw to cut the hood of the vehicle to gain access to the engine compartment.

Thursday, May 9

At 9:38 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of El Monte Avenue and West Longden Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found two patients suffering from mild injuries. The patients received advanced life support at the scene; including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, and 12 lead cardiac monitoring. The patients were transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, May 10

At 1:24 pm Truck 105 and Monrovia Units responded to a structure fire in the 700 block of West Duarte Road in Monrovia. Truck 105 was first to arrive on scene and reported light smoke showing from a rear balcony. Fire crews investigated and found that an occupant was burning trash in a barbeque on her balcony. Fire crews extinguished the small fire and all additional units were cancelled.

Saturday, May 11

At 12:51 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a reported drowning in the 2500 block of South Doolittle Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 9 year old female in mild distress after nearly drowning. Prior to Fire Department arrival an adult witnessed the patient face down in the water, pulled her from the pool and began rescue breathing. Shortly thereafter, the patient began coughing and breathing on her own. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, electrocardiogram and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
