Fire Blotter: Car Plows into Arcadia Business

A window was broken when a vehicle hit a local business this week.

Sunday, May 12
At 7:35 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105 and Battalion 105 responded to a report of a vehicle into a structure in the 00 block of West Duarte Road. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a business with a broken window, which was caused by a car striking the window. Fire crews investigated further to determine the extent of damage to the building and assisted Arcadia Police Department in finding contact information for the business owner.

Monday, May 13
At 9:14 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to medical assist on the soccer field in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 16 year old female suffering from knee pain. The patient had been playing soccer when she felt a “pop” in her knee. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, administration of pain medication, splinting of the extremity and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.

Tuesday, May 14
At 12:28 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to medical emergency in the 200 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find a female patient lying on the ground with a possible head injury. Witnesses stated the patient had been seizing prior to Fire Department arrival. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures including cardiac monitoring and drug therapy. The patient was placed into full cerebral spinal precautions and transported to the closest trauma center.

Wednesday, May 15
At 5:07 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 1600 block of North Elevado Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a deceased 68 year old male. The patient was lying on a sofa with a plastic bag taped around his head with obvious signs of lividity and rigor mortise. The patient met Los Angeles County Prehospital Care Policy 814 and the patient was pronounced dead at the scene. The scene was released to Arcadia Police Department.

Thursday, May 16
At 9:59 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of East Live Oak Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from severe abdominal pain. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist for further evaluation and treatment.

Friday, May 17
At 12:54 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist at the intersection of East Live Oak Avenue and South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male patient who was suffering from chest pain. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, May 18
At 8:12 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical emergency in the 300 block of El Dorado Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find an elderly male with an altered level of consciousness and a history of diabetes. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support measures; including cardiac monitoring, glucose monitoring, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to a local hospital for further treatment and evaluation.
