Fire Log: Structure Fires, Man Kicked by Horse

Sunday, September 15

At 11:53 a.m., Engine 105 was dispatched to a rubbish fire in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Engine 105 arrived on scene to find the contents of a large roll off dumpster on fire. Suppression personnel used a 100’ 1.5” pre-connected hose line to extinguish the fire and stretched a 300’ 2.5” supply line to the closest hydrant. Engine 107 was requested to assist with extinguishment and overhaul. The fire was contained to the dumpster. The exact cause of the fire was undetermined.

Monday, September 16

At 5:48 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived to find an 88 year old female suffering from symptoms of a stroke, including an altered level of consciousness, facial droop and slurred speech. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital further evaluation.

Tuesday, September 17

At 11:21 a.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105, along with units from the Los Angeles County and Pasadena Fire Departments, responded on a structure fire in the 1100 block of Fairview Avenue. Upon arrival, Arcadia fire personnel found light smoke coming from an exterior wall. Upon further investigation, fire personnel found a small fire in the wall where a plumber had been repairing a pipe earlier in the day. Fire crews extinguished the fire and performed salvage and overhaul operations.

Wednesday, September 18

At 12:16 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist inside a medical office in the 00 block of North Fifth Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a 28 year old female suffering from abdominal pain. The patient was 12 weeks pregnant and was experiencing nausea and vomiting. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, 12-lead electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital further evaluation.

Thursday, September 19

At 3:12 p.m., Engine 106, Engine 105, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, and Battalion 105, along with units from the Los Angeles County and Pasadena Fire Departments, responded on a structure fire in the 400 block of South Baldwin Avenue. Upon arrival, Arcadia fire personnel found light smoke inside the structure with the fire sprinkler system activated. Upon further investigation, fire personnel found a stack of burned cardboard boxes that had been left up against a water heater. Fire crews performed salvage and overhaul operations, shut down the sprinkler system, replaced the sprinkler head, and recharged the sprinkler system.

Friday, September 20

At 4:30 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical call in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews arrived on scene to find one male patient suffering from a rib injury after being kicked by a horse. Paramedics assessed the patient and performed advanced life support procedures, including cardiac monitoring and pain management. The patient was transported to a local hospital for further treatment and evaluation.

Saturday, September 21

At 7:18 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 900 Block of Arcadia Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a male patient who was suffering from chest pain with a cardiac dysrhythmia. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.
