Labor Day: What's Open and What's Closed

Banks, libraries, and Baldwin Park public services will close down in observance of the holiday weekend.

Celebrating the working class since the 1880s, Labor Day has evolved from street side parades put on by labor unions to a weekend of backyard barbecues, beachside relaxation and a break from duties for some city staff.

While the very name labor summons visions of workers performing a series of arduous tasks, in reality Labor Day is all about kicking back in the spirit of a summer vacation by reveling in the very last shred of the warm, carefree season. As such, many places that usually run like clockwork will put to rest their cogs in a machine.

  • Arcadia City Offices will be Closed on Monday.
  • In fact, all local government offices—including Parks and Recreation, courts, schools and post offices, will shut their doors Monday for Labor Day. 
  • Additionally, all banks will also close Monday.
  • Metro buses and trains in will continue to run throughout Los Angeles County, albeit on a Sunday schedule.  However, nearly all Metrolink trains will shut down on Labor Day—only two roundtrip train on the Antelope Valley line will continue to operate between L.A. Union Station and Lancaster. Regular service will be restored Tuesday.

The following Foothill Transit lines will operate on a weekend schedule:
178, 185, 187, 195, 197, 269, 272, 274, 280, 281, 282, 284, 285, 286, 289,
291, 480, 482, 486, 488, 492 and Silver Streak.
