Street Closures: Work on Santa Anita Bridge Begins This Week

Here's what to expect when crews start constructing the Santa Anita Bridge.

From the Gold Line Construction Authority:

Crews will be constructing a new bridge over Santa Anita Avenue at the railroad crossing in Arcadia, as part of the 11.5-mile Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension light rail project.

Long-term lane closures on Santa Anita Avenue are required to accomplish this work. The lanes will be closed approximately from Newman Avenue to Santa Clara Street. The lane closures will occur in phases with a total duration of approximately seven months.

The first phase of lane closures will take approximately 4 months, and include the closure of La Porte Street at Santa Anita Ave. Pedestrians will be detoured around Santa Anita Avenue during this phase of work. One night of full closure of Santa Anita is scheduled to take place this Thursday, May 23, 2013, to set the traffic control equipment.

  • Seven months of lane closures are scheduled to begin this week.
  • A full closure of Santa Anita Ave will take place on Thursday, May 23rd from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. the following morning. This full closure is needed to set-up the traffic control for the first phase of lane closures.
  • Once traffic control is placed, the right lanes on northbound and southbound Santa Anita Avenue will be closed approximately between Newman Avenue and Santa Clara Street.
  • These lane closures will be implemented beginning Friday, May 24th and continue for 4 months.
  • Construction work hours are 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Note: Occasional work on Saturdays, Sundays, during the night or longer work hours may be required.
What to Expect:
  • One lane of traffic will be available on northbound and southbound Santa Anita Avenue during the four month, first phase of lane closures (with the exception of a full street closure for one night - on Thursday, May 23).
  • La Porte Street will be closed at Santa Anita Avenue during the first phase of construction.  A detour route will be in place during the closure of La Porte Street and signs will be posted to direct motorists.
  • A temporary pedestrian crossing will be available around the construction area and pedestrian detour signs will be posted to direct pedestrians.
  • All businesses including those located on Santa Anita Avenue and La Porte Street will remain open and accessible.
  • Motorists are advised to expect delays and use alternate routes when possible.
