Pasadena POPS: Michael
Feinstein - The Gershwins and Me
September 7, 2013
Nobody knows the lives and music
of the Gershwin family like Michael Feinstein. When he was twenty years old,
Michael received an opportunity that changed his life: spending the last six
years of Ira Gershwin’s life as his personal archivist, friend, and protégé.
Share in the music and stories of how the Gershwins shaped the Great American
Songbook with iconic songs and musicals that withstand the test of time.
Vocalist Catherine Russell (hailed by the Los Angeles Times as
“one of the most savvy and sophisticated interpreters of classic jazz and
blues”) and Tony-award winner Chuck Cooper (“…an actor is as skillful and
strongly grounded as Cooper, with a rich singing voice to boot,” according to
the Village Voice) join Michael and the
orchestra to revisit the music of the Gershwins.
