UPDATED: Freeway Lanes Reopen After Fire Sparks Sig Alert

A downed power line may have caused the fire.

UPDATE, 5:02 p.m.

Lt. Colleen Flores of the said a downed power line may have caused the vegetation fire centered underneath the Gold Line Bridge. However, she could not confirm that. Patch has put in a call to Southern California Edison and is waiting for them to call back with more information.

Flores said the fire is out.

UPDATE, 4:50 p.m.

The CHP has opened up previously closed lanes after a reported vegetation burned near the 210 freeway at Santa Anita Avenue.


A brush fire underneath the Gold Line Bridge has prompted officials to close down the number 3 and 4 lanes of the eastbound 210 Freeway on Saturday afternoon.

The CHP issued a Sig Alert has been issued at 3:44 p.m. The fire was first reported around 3:11 p.m, and the cause of the flames is not immediately known.

The flames have spread just east of the Metro Gold Line construction zone, and some construction equipment used to construct the bridge may have been damaged, according to CHP traffic logs.

Honestly, what does it take to get people to stop tossing ciggies from their cars? With the costs of fighting these unnecessary fires and with the potential for more serious fires if these cretins happen to toss their butts while traveling in the hills and the mountains, maybe it's time for a disincentive that's more than a slap on the wrist.

God will punish thoe who wish ill will on there brothers and sisters even though they do wrong. You are supposed to uplift and help your fellow citizens not hope they get punished. People thing what they think really matters but judement will be swift in heaven and there ill thoughts will be judged harshly. Think about that Ellen.

Just imagine a fire inside the proposed SR710 4.5mi. tunnel.. that would be a horror. You think traffic is bad now? Wait till the trucks get on the 210 from the ports. It's really a shame to hear that the Gold Line costuction was damagedby this. I hope they can continue.
