Bears Sighted Multiple Times in Arcadia Neighborhood

Ursine creatures cause a minor stir on Highland Oaks Saturday afternoon.

Highland Oaks residents reported multiple sightings of a bear and her cub wandering the neighborhood Saturday.

The first sighting took place shortly after noon, when the furry duo decided to tour a backyard in the 1800 block of Highland Oaks Drive, according to scanner reports. The bears disappeared back into a flood control channel minutes after Arcadia police arrived, Sgt. Dan Crowther said.

Less than an hour later, the bears turned up again, this time in the 1700 block of Highland Oaks. They then ambled two blocks over to a home in the 1500 block of Highland Oaks.

The bears made a quick visit to the 1300 block of Highland Oaks before heading home for the day shorly before 3:30 p.m.

Luckily, no humans or bears were harmed.

"Once we get there, they usually get spooked out pretty quick," Crowther said.
