UPDATED: Deputy Hit By Gunfire in S. El Monte, Injuries Considered Not Life-Threatening

UPDATE, Sept. 2, 2:20 p.m.: The deputy shot by two carjacking suspects was treated and released from the hospital, according to Mike Parker of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

The two suspects, now described as a man and woman, escaped in their reportedly carjacked vehicle. The two are believed to have abandoned the Nissan Armada and carjacked a minivan in South Gate, according to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

UPDATE, Sept. 2, 11 a.m.: A priliminary report indicates the injuries the deputy received are not considered to be life threatening, said Mike Parker in a message on his Twitter page.

PREVIOUSLY: A deputy with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Temple Station was struck by gunfire in a deputy-involved shooting early Sunday in South El Monte.

The deputy was fired on with a shotgun by two car jacking suspects just before 9 a.m., said Captain Mike Parker of the Sheriff's Department. The deputy was flown by helicopter to an area hospital and the deputy's condition has not been revealed at this time.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Michael Hunt Drive and Peck Road, according to scanner reports.

The two suspects, both male Blacks, fled the scene of the shooting in their carjacked gray Nissan Armada and are armed with the shotgun, Parker said.

The Temple Sheriff's Station serves the unincorporated areas of Arcadia and Monrovia, in addition to Duarte, Bradbury, Rosemead, South El Monte, North and South San Gabriel, East Pasadena and Chantry Flats.
