Driver Ejected, Killed during Crash on 210 In Arcadia

Alcohol believed to be a factor in deadly early-morning crash.

A deadly solo crash on the Interstate 210 freeway took the life of the driver who suddenly swerved and slammed into the center divider.

Erick Carrillo, 28, from Pasadena, was pronounced dead by paramedics after the victim was reportedly ejected from his vehicle. It was determined by officials that Carrillo was not wearing a seatbelt at the time.

The accident was reported at 1:23 a.m. on the westbound 210 east of 2nd Avenue. Carrillo was driving his 1999 Ford Mustang in excess of 70 miles per hour in the No. 5 lane when he, according to witnesses, suddenly swerved to the left, hit the center divider and was ejected from the vehicle, according to a California Highway Patrol press release.

Carillo's body came to rest in the HOV lane. A driver in the HOV lane saw Carrillo's car disabled in the No. 1 lane and kept driving, striking the victim's body, authorities reported. Arcadia Police and firefighters arrived and attempted first aid, but the victim was declared dead.

Eye witnesses reported a third vehicle may have struck the side of the disabled vehicle as it came to a rest in the No. 1 lane. Carrillo's next of kin have been notified by the Los Angeles County Coroner's Office.
