Obituary provided by Susan Clothier
Richard Alden Hallquist (June 24, 1924-September 5, 2013) passed away peacefully at home in Pasadena with family and loving caregivers at his bedside.
Born in Seekonk, Massachusetts, he spent his early years in Rhode Island. At the outbreak of WW II Richard proudly enlisted in the U.S. Navy.
He served aboard the USS WASP whose crew was awarded a commendation for meritorious service and heroism in the Pacific theatre. He was a teaching golf professional for over twenty years, 15 of those at Santa Anita Golf Course in Arcadia.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Barbara DeGroot (John) and Susan Clothier, three beloved grandchildren, Matthew, Shelby and Kyle and devoted wife Marjorie.
A man of simple pleasures, Richard loved nothing more than being with his family. He will be remembered as a good and humble man, a wonderful father and a proud veteran.
The family is deeply grateful to the staff of Regency Park Oak Knoll where he was cared for his last few years and Vitas Hospice for their support in his final days.
A private family memorial celebration will be held. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the charity of your choice in Richard’s name.
