Arcadia Fire Blotter: Paramedics Treat Baby Not Breathing

The following information is from the Arcadia Fire Department:

Monday, December 29 

At 6:12 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Camino Real. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from head, neck, and lower back pain following a fall. The patient received advanced life support at the scene, including oxygen therapy and spinal immobilization. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, December 30

At 9:05 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a woman in labor in the 1000 block of South Second Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene and found a female patient in her 20’s in active labor, whose water had broken. Paramedics assessed the patient and transported her directly to labor and delivery at the closest hospital.

Tuesday, December 31

At 7:15 a.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Camino Real. Fire crews arrived to find a 78 year old male suffering from non-provoked chest pain. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including intravenous access, administering of cardiac medications, 12 lead electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.

Wednesday, January 1

At 2:55 p.m., Engine 107 responded to the report of smoke in the area of the 00 block of East Forest Avenue. Engine 107 arrived on scene and met with the reporting party. The informant stated that he thought he saw smoke up against the foothills. Engine 107 investigated further but did not locate any smoke or fire source.

Thursday, January 2

At 8:41 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105 and Battalion 105, along with units from Monrovia, Pasadena and Los Angeles County Fire Departments, responded to a structure fire in the 2700 block of South Warren Way. Fire crews arrived to find that a burning candle had ignited the carpet. The homeowner extinguished the fire prior to Fire Department. Fire crews utilized smoke ejectors to clear the house of smoke.

Friday, January 3

At 2:01 p.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106 and Battalion 105, along with units from Pasadena and Los Angeles County Fire Departments, responded to a structure fire in the 1000 block of South Golden West Avenue. Fire crews arrived to find a malfunctioning water heater was emitting a two foot flame. The fire was extinguished and the gas was shut off to the location. The cause of the fire appeared to be related to a power outage in the area, which created a source of ignition.

Saturday, January 4

At 12:17 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a report of a baby not breathing in the 400 block of West Las Tunas Drive. Fire crews arrived to find a 14 month old female who had experienced a febrile seizure followed by cessation of breathing. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene, including intravenous access and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation.
