Arcadia High School Threat Believed to be Related to Other Recent Threats

Arcadia High School was placed on lockdown Thursday as police and SWAT personnel searched the campus following an anonymous male called the school saying he had a gun on campus.

The call was made around 3 p.m., police said.

After the school grounds were searched and deemed safe, the lockdown was lifted around 5:30 p.m. and parents were allowed to pick up students at Arcadia County Park near Santa Anita Avenue and Huntington Drive, police said.

"It is our belief the incident is related to other similar calls to adjacent jurisdictions this week," according to an Arcadia Police Department statement that said the department is "conducting a collaborative investigation with allied agencies and the FBI."

On Tuesday, Northview Intermediate School and adjacent Duarte High School, which are on the same campus, were placed on lockdown, according to deputies at the sheriff's Temple Station.

On Monday, a call to the Covina Police Department about 1 p.m. from an anonymous male who said that he was at the Citrus Medical Center and had an AK- 47 "and was going to start shooting people" was determined to be a hoax.

A similar telephone call shut down a middle school in Monrovia about the same time.
