The man reportedly failed to make sure the gun was not loaded before attempting to clean it.

An Arcadia man accidentally shot himself in the finger Wednesday night during a failed attempt to clean his gun.

Arcadia Police Lt. Bob Anderson said the 55-year-old man was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

The accidental shooting in the 900 block of Fallen Leaf Road occurred shortly after 10 p.m. The man reportedly pulled the trigger while cleaning his gun and did not know the gun was loaded.

Dan, for some reason, your comment reminded me of a line from one of my favorite Johnny Cash songs, "Folsom Prison Blues." "When I was just a baby my mama told me, 'Son, Always be a good boy, don't ever play with guns.'"

@ Natalie I like that JC song too. Even an unloaded gun can inflect some pain. Here is an example. Never drop the hammer on the on the web skin between your thumb and index finger while playing with a gun. Hurts for days.

Well I'm only guessing here but may be the gunslinger of this story agrees with you. He could be following this Patch story. If so I'm hoping he will chime in to confirm your conclusion. PS John could you be that gunslinger ????? Peace
