Arcadia Police Prevent Suicidal Man From Jumping Off Bridge

A 49-year-old Duarte man was seen standing over a flood control wash Thursday.

A man threatened to jump off of an Arcadia bridge Thursday evening before Arcadia Police were able to convince the man to step back onto the street to safety.

A passerby called Arcadia Police and reported seeing a man standing over the side of the bridge above the flood control wash on Camino Real, east of Eighth Avenue around 5 p.m.

The 49-year-old man from Duarte threatened to jump off of the overpass, Lt. Tom Cullen said.

Eventually, officers were able to coax him away from the railing and get him to sit on the street.

The man was taken to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for evaluation. The man was not injured in the incident.

Cullen said the man did not tell officers what caused him to threaten suicide.
