An Arcadia man has pleaded not guilty to kidnapping an elderly Pasadena woman from her home at gunpoint and forcing her to withdraw money from a bank.

Eddie B. McFadden Jr. is charged with 10 felony counts, including kidnapping, armed robbery, elder abuse, assault and being a felon in possession of a weapon, among other charges.

He is being held at Men's Central Jail in lieu of $960,000 bail, according to Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department records.

Police also arrested Marquis Garrett, 20, and Paul Scott, 31 — both of Pasadena — in connection with the case and booked the pair on suspicion of kidnapping for financial gain.

However, the District Attorney's Office has not filed charges against either man. District Attorney Spokesperson Jane Robison said there was not enough evidence to charge Garrett or Scott in the case.

Mc Fadden allegedly broke into a home in the 1900 block of North Arroyo Boulevard in Pasadena on March 12 and assaulted the two women before commanding one of the women to go to the bank and withdraw money.

At around 12:30 p.m. on March 14, Pasadena detectives and plainclothes Los Angeles County sheriff's deputies were in the area of Mar Vista Avenue and Orange Grove Boulevard in Pasadena investigating the kidnapping and robbery when they encountered two of the three suspects in the case, police said.

The suspects' vehicle collided with an unmarked sheriff's car, but the suspects fled and managed to evade a cordon and search that was called off around 9 p.m. One of the suspects reportedly exchanged gun fire with a deputy.

Garrett and Scott were arrested in Pasadena later in that night, while McFadden was taken into custody at his Arcadia home following an exhaustive search using police helicopters.
