Blotter: Firefighters Extract Three From Overturned Vehicle

The Arcadia Fire Department responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of Jan. 13-19. The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this time period:

Medical Assist: Seizure

At 6:32 p.m. on Jan. 13, Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 800 block of Arcadia Avenue. Fire personnel treated a woman suffering from a seizure. Paramedics transported the patient to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Medical Assist: Cardiac Arrhythmia

At 1:52 p.m. on Jan. 14, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of East Santa Clara Street. Fire crews evaluated elderly woman experiencing heart arrhythmia. The patient denied any discomfort or pain. Paramedics transported her to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Natural Gas Leak

At 8:59 a.m. on Jan. 15, Truck 105 responded to a natural gas leak outside of a structure in the 300 block of Topaz Avenue. Crews used a combustible gas detector to locate the leak. The Southern California Gas Company arrived as the Fire Department secured the area.

Medical Assist: Heart Problems

At 10:11 a.m. on Jan. 16, Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of South First Avenue. Fire crews evaluated a man suffering from tachycardia and chest pain. Paramedics assessed the patient and transported him to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Three Extracted From Overturned Vehicle

At 11:41 a.m. on Jan. 17, Engine 105, Engine 107, Rescue Ambulance 105, Rescue Ambulance 106, Truck 105, and Battalion 105, with units from the Monrovia Fire Department, responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of East Huntington Drive and North First Avenue. Fire personnel discovered a two-vehicle traffic accident with one vehicle overturned.
Fire crews’ extricated three people from the overturned vehicle. All three had mild to moderate injuries. Paramedics transported two of the patients to Huntington Memorial Hospital and the other to the University of Southern California Medical Center for further evaluation and treatment.

Two Stuck in Elevator

At 7:31 p.m. on Jan. 18, Engine 105 and Truck 105 responded to a reported person trapped in an elevator in the 400 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire crews investigated the building and discovered two non-injured people stuck in a stalled elevator. Fire personnel manually lowered the elevator to the ground floor to free the trapped occupants without incident. The elevator was released to building maintenance personnel.

Traffic Collision With Injuries

At 7:11 a.m. on Jan. 19, Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision in the 1100 block of North Baldwin Avenue. Fire personnel treated one person with mild to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene. Paramedics transported the patient to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
