Downed Power Line Causes Fire, Power Outage

Thousands across Arcadia, Monrovia without power right now.

The responded to a reported structure fire in the 1000 block of Greenfield Avenue shortly after 2 p.m.

Fire crews expected to find a structure fire caused by a blown transformer. As it turns out, a downed power line sparked a vegetation fire in a rear yard and in between two houses. Neither house caught fire.

Firefighters extinguished the fire within ten minutes and called Southern California Edison the scene.

The downed power line also caused a power outage. It is not known at this time how widespread the power outage is, but appears to encompass a large portion of the City, including , City Hall and .

The outage is also affecting Monrovia at the moment. David Song, Southern California Edison Representative, reports 7,200 customers in these two cities are without electricity. Workers are in the area attempting to locate the source of the outage.

The outage occurred at 2:29 p.m., Song said.
