Fatal Strip Mall Stabbing Suspect Pleads Not Guilty

Juan Lorenzo will have a pretrial hearing next month.

A man accused of fatally stabbing a teen behind an Arcadia strip mall in 2011 pleaded not guilty Thursday at the Los Angeles Superior Courthouse in Pasadena.

Juan Lorenzo, 32, is charged with one count of murder and felony assault with a deadly weapon in the death of 18-year-old Anthony Berry of Pomona.

Lorenzo is scheduled to appear again in court April 15 for a pretrial hearing.

Investigators say an altercation between behind the President Square Food Court at 1300 South Golden West Avenue. Berry later died of his wounds at Huntington Memorial Hospital.

Police say they located the knife used in the stabbing at the Money Pot Shabu Shabu restaurant at 1236 South Golden West Ave, where Lorenzo worked. The restaurant was closed at the time of the incident.

Lorenzo is being held in lieu of $1.3 million bail.
