Female Victim Shot in Cheek By Suspect During Robbery

Just after midnight Friday morning, a robbery attempt occurred in the 1100 block of S. Third Avenue in which a female victim was shot in the cheek by a male suspect.

According to a statement released by Sgt. Tom Le Veque of the Arcadia Police Department, the victim and her child were walking to the door of their home when a male suspect confronted them, demanding the woman’s purse and laptop computer that she was holding. When the victim did not hand them over immediately, the suspect pulled what appeared to be a dark handgun and fired on the woman, striking her in the cheek. 

The suspect then grabbed the purse and computer and fled in a waiting vehicle described as possibly a newer model Dodge, dark in color.

No weapon was found at the scene but based on the woman’s injuries authorities believe the suspect fired a BB or pellet gun.

According to police, the victim described the suspect as male, possibly African-American, 20-25 years old, medium build, wearing dark clothing and jeans. 

The victim suffered a cut and bruising on her cheek in the incident but did not require immediate medical attention. The child was unharmed, police said.
