Fire Blotter: Alarm Goes Off as House is Demolished

Fire crews found an active smoke detector in the rubble of a home demolished near Danimere Avenue and South 4th Avenue.

Sunday, July 21
At 9:40 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a fire alarm in the area of Danimere Avenue and South Forth Avenue. Fire crews found an audible fire alarm coming from a house under demolition. There was no smoke or fire present at the location. Fire personnel investigated further and found a battery power smoke detector activating in the debris pile due to dust from demolition. The detector was silenced prior to fire personnel leaving the scene.

Monday, July 22
At 9:15 a.m., Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Battalion 105, along with units from Monrovia Fire Department responded to a big rig fire on the right shoulder of the 210 freeway, westbound between Santa Anita Avenue and Baldwin Avenue. Fire crews extinguished the cab of the tractor-trailer that was fully involved with fire. A small vegetation fire that threatened homes near the freeway was a result of the cab fire. Fire personnel extinguished and overhauled the cab fire and small vegetation fire with no damage to the structures. Monrovia’s Water Tender responded to provide water to the scene. The fire cause was determined to be mechanical in nature. There were no injuries were reported.

Tuesday, July 23
At 8:42 a.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a reported auto versus pedestrian at the intersection of Duarte Road and South Fifth Avenue. Fire crews evaluated a female patient lying in the street with a chief complaint of head and neck pain. Paramedics provided Advanced Life Support measures on scene. The patient was assessed, placed in full cerebral spinal precautions, and transported her to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Wednesday, July 24
At 5:41 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist at a residence hotel in the 300 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire crews evaluated an elderly male traveling abroad complaining of what was described as indigestion and initially refusing treatment and transportation. Paramedics assessed the patient for potential cardiac complications. After the initial assessment, Paramedics determine the patient was experiencing a possible heart attack.

Paramedics provided advanced life support measures including intravenous access, electrocardiogram, cardiac medications, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment. The patient was determined to be experiencing a heart attack and was immediately transferred to the hospital’s Cath Lab for emergency intervention.

Thursday, July 25
At 4:07 p.m., Engine 106, with Monrovia Squad 101, responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire crews evaluated an elderly male in full cardiac arrest. Paramedics provided advance life support measures on scene including CPR, intravenous access, administering of cardiac medications, 12 lead electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. After full resuscitative measures, the patient was pronounced at scene.

Friday, July 26
At 1:15 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 1800 block of South Third Avenue. Fire crews evaluated an elderly male who had experienced a syncopal episode and was disoriented. Paramedics provided advance life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12 lead electrocardiogram, check of blood sugar level, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Saturday, July 27
At 2:39 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a medical assist in the 700 block of West Hampton Road. Fire crews evaluated a male patient sitting in a parked vehicle complaining of a sudden onset of chest pain and vomiting. The Paramedics accessed the patient and determined that the patient had consumed a large quantity of alcohol. Paramedics provided advance life support measures on scene including intravenous access, 12 lead electrocardiogram, and oxygen therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
