Fire Blotter: Apartment Fire

With 58 medical assists, it was a busy week for the Arcadia Fire Department.

The responded to a variety of emergency calls during the week of Feb. 19-25.  The following is a breakdown of incident types recorded for this period:

Feb. 19:

At 8:18 p.m., Engine 106, Rescue Ambulance 106 responded to a traffic collision with injuries at the intersection of South Baldwin Avenue and West Live Oak Avenue. Fire personnel evaluated one patient suffering from minor to moderate injuries. The patient was treated with advanced life support at the scene, including; full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy and cardiac monitoring. The patient was transported to for further evaluation and treatment.

At 11:15 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to medical assist in the 200 block of South Santa Anita Avenue. Fire crews evaluated an elderly woman who was feeling weak and dizzy. Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene; including oxygen therapy, 12-lead cardiac monitoring and intravenous access. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Feb. 21:

At 9:03 a.m., Engine 107, Engine 106, Engine 105, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 105, Battalion 105, and units from the Monrovia Fire Department responded to a structure fire in the 100 block of Country Oaks Drive. Fire personnel found light smoke coming from the front of the structure.  Suppression crews gained access through an unlocked door and encountered a small fire in a bedroom. The fire was extinguished and overhauled. A primary and secondary search was performed without further incident. Smoke removal was provided and the home was released to the resident following fire investigators’ determination that the fire was accidental.

Feb. 22:

At 9:26 a.m., Engine 105, Engine 106, Engine 107, Truck 105, Rescue Ambulance 106 and Battalion 105, along with Monrovia Fire units, responded to the 700 block of Holly Avenue for a reported structure fire. Fire crews discovered light smoke coming from an apartment and made forcible entry through a patio door. They determined the smoke was caused by food left cooking on the stove. Fire crews abated the hazard, provided horizontal ventilation to evacuate the smoke and secured the apartment.

Feb. 23:

At 2:24 p.m., Engine 107 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 200 block of West Huntington Drive. Fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from an altered mental status. The patient received advanced life support at the scene, including; oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, blood glucose monitoring and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Feb. 24:

At 8:34 a.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 400 block of East Huntington Drive. Fire personnel evaluated a male patient who was suffering from chest pain with shortness of breath. The patient received advanced life support at the scene, including; oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.

Feb. 25:

At 1:39 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 100 block of East Las Flores Avenue. Fire Crews evaluated an elderly woman experiencing severe ankle pain after falling from a ladder.  Paramedics provided advanced life support measures on scene, including; oxygen therapy, cardiac monitoring, intravenous access and pain management medication. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital for further evaluation and treatment.
