Fire Blotter: Bike Collision, Brush Fire

Sunday, August 4

At 3:24 p.m., Engine 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic collision at the intersection of East Las Flores and South Santa Anita Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found two patients suffering from mild to moderate injuries. Patient One denied treatment or transport and signed a medical release. Patient Two received advanced life support at the scene; including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and wound care. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Monday, August 5

At 6:35  a.m.,  Engine 105,  Rescue Ambulance 105, Truck 105, Engine 107, and Battalion 105 responded to a vehicle into a structure in the 300 block of East Floral Avenue. Upon arrival, fire personnel found a single vehicle into a structure with minor damage to the structure and one patient suffering from mild to moderate injuries. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including full spinal immobilization, oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, and wound care. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Tuesday, August 6

At 12:06 p.m., Engine 107 and Monrovia Paramedic Engine 102 responded to a medical call in the 700 block of South Second Ave. Fire crews arrived and found one male patient who had overdosed on medication and was combative. Arcadia Police was requested to the scene to assist with the patient. Paramedics treated the patient by performing advanced life support measures, including cardiac monitoring and providing intravenous fluids. The patient was transported by a private ambulance to a local hospital.

Wednesday, August 7

At 2:36 p.m., Engine 106 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a medical assist in the 600 block of West Duarte Road. Upon arrival, fire personnel evaluated a female patient who was suffering from an altered mental status. The patient received advanced life support at the scene; including oxygen therapy, 12 lead cardiac monitoring, intravenous access, blood glucose monitoring, and drug therapy. The patient was transported to Arcadia Methodist Hospital Emergency Department for further evaluation and treatment.

Thursday, August 8

At 3:41 p.m., Truck 105 and Rescue Ambulance 105 responded to a traffic collision involving an automobile and a bicycle in the intersection of East Duarte Road and South Third Avenue. Fire crews arrived on scene to find one male patient who had been struck by a slow moving vehicle while riding his bicycle. Paramedics assessed the patient, who refused all medical treatment.

Friday, August 9

At 4:50 p.m., Engine 105 responded to a vegetation fire in the 5400 block of South Peck Road. Fire crews arrived to find Los Angeles County Fire Department units at the scene extinguishing a twenty by twenty vegetation fire. Engine 105 personnel assisted Los Angeles County Fire units with shuttling water and overhauling the area to prevent a rekindle. Further investigation determined the cause of the fire to be suspicious in nature but investigators were unable to determine the actual cause.

Saturday, August 10

␣At 7:11 p.m., Engine 106 responded to a fuel spill at the intersection of South Baldwin Avenue and Las Tunas Drive. Engine 106 arrived on scene to find a non-injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a light pole. Fire personnel assessed the scene and determined that there was live electrical wiring under the vehicle from the damaged pole. Public works was requested to the scene to repair the pole. Absorbent material was placed around the car to collect fluids leaking from the vehicle.
